I wasn't going to post this for a while (my fear of commitment rearing it's ugly head), but since Rebekah has announced it on her blog, I thought I'd post it here. So it's off with one exercise program (44 Day Challenge) and onto a new one.......yep, that's right. My sisters, Kendra K., and I are training to run in the Chicago Half Marathon in September. Kendra has done it several times, but I don't think we three have run a race since we were little.
I will go on record to say that I am NOT a natural born runner. It's very difficult to run and I don't necessarily find it enjoyable...however, with that said, I'm pretty excited to train for this race! First off, because I'm doing it with my sisters and Kendra...that in itself is reason to make me really excited. In fact, I would never have done this on my own, but I know Bek and Heidi have wanted to do this for a while, so we're taking the plunge. Secondly, it's going to be pretty great knowing that I ran a half marathon. And Thirdly, how could I not be excited about the awesome t-shirt you get. ;)
You know what's funny is that I was looking up training schedules, but I realized that all the schedules assume that you can run 3 miles comfortably...um, lets just say that I'm doing good to run 1 mile let alone 3. So, I found a program that is called "From Couch to 5k". Just the name itself conjured up feeling of humiliation...but it'll be fun knowing that we went "From couch to 13.1 miles"!
I read on Janet's blog that Jeff and the kids had been running, and I'm pretty sure Alesa had mentioned that she was starting to run as well...so no excuses. I'm not sure that this is the smartest thing posting this on a blog for a lot of peple to read, but it worked with the 44 Day Challenge, so lets hope it works with this as well!!!
I'm sure I'll keep you updated!

Go Tami, Go!!!! So proud of you!!
Other than the fact that I"m completely jealous . . ..I'm SOO excited for you guys! : )
Maybe by the time you run this race, I'll be in shape in try to start running again and then you can show ME how to get from the couch to 13.1 miles! : ) I'm still determined that one day, I will get a half-marathon ran since I never got to do the one I started training for in college.
Although right now, trying to get a mental picture of me running is quite humerous to myself. : )
I think that's so neat you're all doing that together - like Janet said, GO TAMI GO!!!! : )
best of luck! last year i starting training for a half and didn't get past mile 6. so i wish you more success than i. :)
Hey Tami...I think that is awesome. I have ran three half marathons and have found them to be incredibly painful and non-fun. However it is definitely a rewarding accomplishment. I hope the training goes well, enjoy it.
Also..I am natural born runner either, however you don't have to be a natural born runner to run. I am defnitely not, even though I have been running for 10 years.
Go Tam GO!!
This is exciting, Tami! I love that you found a "from couch to 3 miles" training schedule...that made me smile!
Let me know how the training goes...I'm sure you'll have days when you think "what in the world have I gotten myself into?!" :)
Go, go, go Tami, Bek, Heidi and Kens!!!
