Red and Yellow, Black and White, they are precious in His sight...

Many of you have already heard this story from my Sunday School class on Sunday, but I thought it was so funny that it was worth writing on my blog.

We were singing songs with my 3 year old Sunday School class this past Sunday. Among them was the song, "Jesus Loves the Little Children". After we sang the song, Karen explained what the song meant when we sing, "Red and Yellow, Black and White, they are precious in His sight". She explained that children such as Caleb and Cade have "Yellow" skin, Faith and Caleb's sister Hope have "Black" skin, Indian children have "Red" skin, and others have "White" skin. She went on to say that no matter if our skin is Red, Yellow, Black, or White, Jesus loves all the children and died for all of them. James A. suddenly burst into tears as he wailed, "I have PINK cheeks!!!" We affirmed that yes, he has cute pink cheeks. To which he responded, "But I don't want pink cheeks!!! You didn't talk about the color pink!!" I did my best not to burst out into laughter as we assured him that Jesus loves children with pink cheeks and died for them too!

Later that hour (in my on-going-fruitless attempt to make the "Asian connection" with Caleb), the following conversation took place.

Me: Caleb, did you know that you, Cade, and I all have the same skin color?
Caleb (with a look of confusion): No...yours is more like my sister Hope's
Me: ????

For those of you that don't know, Hope is from Ethiopia. :)
