This is going to be "political", as a warning to those of you who don't like politics. But I thought it was time that I officially gave my endorsement on "Silly Nothings" to Senator McCain and Govenor Palin.
Now, I realize that no one really cares what I think about the candidates, but since it seems that being able to act or sing are the valued credentials for political influence, I figured, that since I have sung and starred in a couple home-movie productions, I would claim whatever authority this gives Tom Hanks and Chris Brown to be an expert on politics and state my support as well.
You all know that it was Govenor Huckabee I was hoping to see at the Republican National Convention this year, and was less than enthusiastic when instead, it was Senator McCain who won the nomination. I'll even go a step further to say that when I heard Gov. Palin announced as his running mate, I was in shock, and there was a significant part of me that did not like the nomination based on the fact that she was a woman (funny, coming from a woman), and that I didn't think she appeard to be Vice President material. Condeleezza Rice? Yes. Sarah Palin? No. She has young children and I thought she seemed more fit to speak at some mother's convention rather than be a VP.
However, after much research in the past few days, she has won me over. I'm gladly put to shame on my assumptions and am proud to be in the party that that would have her on the ticket. If you have not already, you need to watch her acceptance speech for the nomination at the RNC. It's excellent.
Along with her, my respect for Senator McCain has grown significantly and will definitely be supporting him to win the presidency come November. I realize that he is not the public speaker nor does he exude the charisma that Sen. Obama does. However, as I've always said, it's key to be a good public speaker when you're a senator/representative because that is your job. It's your job to convince people to vote for your bill...the power of persuasion. But somehow people think that transelates to the presidency. Public speaking skills does not make President Bush a bad president, nor would it make Sen. Obama a good president. Presidents are there to make decisions, not speeches.
I'll end with a quote made by Senator Obama when asked when life begins. He refused to answer the question that he considered to be a "theological question". No, Sen. Obama. When life begins is a bioligical question. When life is worth saving is a question of humanity. How you'll pay for the answers you give is the theological question. So in the words of Sen. Obama, when refusing to answer the question of when life begins, "It is above my pay scale". In that case, so is the presidency.

Amen!
I endorse your endorsement :)
You Rock, Tam!
Sarah Palin is a BRILLIANT choice for VP...I really think she has some of the same appeal our good friend Mike Huckabee has. She's a normal person who can relate to normal people.
I can't wait for her debate with Joe Biden in October! I'd be nervous if I were him...she's tough :)
Tami,
I listened to the speach and she has also won me over...but I was excited about her from the beginning, because I felt it would pull voters.
By the way...I think you should run for v.president some day!

I am also a Palin fan for now, but I am reserving my final judgment until she actually does something besides give red meat speeches to partisan crowds. Even I could stand up in front of a convention and say "Barack Obama sucks" and have huge poll numbers. I can't wait to see her interviewed by anyone or debate Joe Biden. I have a feeling she'll do fine.
Also I still have to disagree with you about Mike Huckabee. I listened to him, and feel like he fits perfectly into your description of someone who can "give speeches and win people over", I just don't see him leading anything more than a church or Arkansas.
Jonathan, you're right, we disagree about Mike Huckabee because although he can "win people over" with his speech, he also ran (what I would consider to be) a successful term as govenor of Arkansas. Being govenor is the smaller scale of being president to the nation. i know you know all this, but in my personal opinion, Huckabee did a great job...but that's my opinion, and you and I have had many discussions about this, so I think we'll agree to disagree.
I also think Palin has done MUCH more than spout that Obama sucks, so I'm glad you're a fan of her right now, and I hope it continues for all of us!
Tami, Kirk and I were the same way... didn't like that she's a woman and has small kids.... but she won us over too.
Sarah, great comment.
I also think she brings new energy and excitement to the campaign....we'll see.
On another note, Tami dear, I apologize for using your blog for email, but my husband is really needing that external drive and he cannot get a hold of you. Can you help him please?
Love you,
Marla

Dear Marla,
I'm sorry to use this blog as an email, but I just wanted to let you know that I heard it is getting cold in Illinoise, I miss you and it might be time to come visit me. I'll be home next week, for my 'summer break' but then I'll be in Naples until Christmas. So I'll see you soon.

I personally believe that John McCain has some serious character flaws that do not make me thrilled about him as President of our country. I also don't believe that he has changed, as some people do, since he chose Sarah Palin for his running mate. I do believe that he is smart enough to know that he needs the evangelical vote to win the election and he is smart enough to do what it takes to get it. That said, I hope it works because the alternative is far, far worse. I do believe that Senator McCain has a sincere love of his country and is much more experienced and able to lead in these difficult times. I will cast my vote for him - not so much as a vote for him but as a vote against Obama. And I pray that Sarah Palin can be a good and effective influence on John McCain. JMO.
Tami, I agree with you 100%. And I also think your final comments about Obama's remarks are said with enough clarity and conviction to be in a newspaper! Well said!
