10 Things I've Never Wanted To Do

A little while back, Taryn had a post of 10 things she's never wanted to do and then 10 things she's always wanted to do. It got me thinking so these aren't necessarily the Top 10, but just 10 things I've thought of...

10 Things I've Never Wanted to Do:

1. Ride the drop ride at Great America/Watch a horror movie...to me these are both exsactly the same thing. I've never understood the purpose of either one. The only thing both of these would result in is sheer terror and personally, I don't find paralyzing fear to be a pleasant pass time. (I know Leslie would disagree!)

2. Climb and very tall mountain...this is different from hiking 'cause I like that. It's those pictures of people hanging on the side of these mountains risking their very lives in order to get a better view of the world. Okay, so that may not be the only reason, but as I always say when it comes to games, the fun has to outweigh the stress or else it's not worth playing...so I don't think the view would outweigh how horrible it would be to get to the top. I'll just take a plane ride and look out the window. :)

3. Play Dutch Blitz...my last comment kind of leads into this one. Dutch Blitz is a game that does not have the right stress/fun balance to me. It's about 99.9% stressful and .1% fun. I'm in knots from the moment they yell, "go!" to "blitz!". It's one of the worst games anyone has ever come up with...those crazy Dutchmen.

4. Drink Soy Milk...enough said.

5. Visit Siberia...I LOVE to travel and there are very few places I wouldn't go, but there's something about the name of that country that I have zero desire to visit. If I wanted to describe a place that sounds and feels the farthest from home, I'd say Siberia. Maybe it's the influence of Reptevia from Fiddler on the Roof since I'm pretty sure that's where his daughter went to go marry that crazy radicalist...I'm with you "Papa", that was a very bad decision.

6. Get a tounge ring...I know, that seems obvious but I thought it was worth mentioning since it still baffles me. It littlerally sounds like the same as shooting yourself in the foot. It looks painful and it makes you talk funny. It seems that people's first reactions to a tounge ring is normally startlement, which is usually a response from people that I try to avoid.

7. Name my daughter "Rory"...I actually like the name (Gilmore Girls), but I have a very difficult time saying my "R's", so Rory is just a nightmare to say. Another word that I have a very difficult time saying is 'roar'...I just want to say whoa (for roar) and wo-wy (for Rory).

8. Pop my nuckles...ouch! The less I touch or see bones the better.

9. Pee in a pool...We were just talking about this with some girls and I said that I have never once peed in a pool because my Grandpa told me they had a secret chlorine that turned red whenever someone would pee in the pool. That kept me from ever doing it...and as Heidi says, it would be like "stewing in your own juices" which just sounds terrible to me.

10. Listen to Amy Grant sing...her music has ALWAYS made me depressed. Sharlin, if you're reading this, do you remember when I told you that YEARS ago and you secretly turned on her song and I immediately said I felt depressed? True story.

What about you?

I agree with you on most of your list. But I do like Dutch Blitz, don't have a problem saying my R's (this made me laugh by the way, someday I am going to ask you to Roar for me!), and have peeed in a pool before (although thankfully not recently, or anywhere near recently!)

Loved the list!
So true: "but as I always say when it comes to games, the fun has to outweigh the stress or else it's not worth playing" There is hardly a game I enjoy because I think that almost all of them are all stressful!
I would never name my girl Rory either. I worked with a 45 year old man name Rory. Without going into alot of detail, he was a hillbilly...you can picture the rest.

I'm sorry Tam, but I LOVE the game of Dutch Blitz. Maybe it's because it's something that I can actually WIN! Not to puff myself up or anything...well maybe just a little! :)

Love you!

Tami that was an excellent blog. It appears that you dislike anything that causes an adrenaline rush. That is funny, because I have always been the same way. I mean look at my hobbies: golf, shopping, watching TV, traveling, sports etc. The idea of watching a horror movie was silly, I would never do that.

However a couple of months ago, a girl I havr been dating a bit wanted to go watch "the Strangers" which is a horrifying slasher killer movie. I hadn't seen a horror movie in probably 10 years. I couldn't tell her I wouldn't go because I was scared, that would have made me look pathetic. So I went and was horrified the whole time, frequently ducking and covering my eyes. The girl I went with was also terrified, so that was nice because she was grabbing my arm and burying her head in my shoulder.

So my heart was pounding the whole movie, and my blood pressure was really high, but you know I actually kind of liked it, the rush was kinda fun. So now I like horror movies. I still wouldn't watch one by myself late at night, but since then I have watched a few with other people and when you have someone to be scared with it is fun.

Further comments about your list:

1. I also have always hated roller coasters/amusement parks. However maybe I should reconsider with my new horror movie feelings.
2. I also have no desire to mountain climb, scared of heights, too much work.
3. I love playing dutch blitz, I am just horrible at it, so I try to avoid it.
4. Soy milk = it's not horrible I have tried it.
5. I think your perspective on Siberia is fictional. In real life Siberia is not a snow covered tundra, it's actually a beautiful place, look for some pictures!
6. Piercings (besides ear) = trashy
7. I have no feelings about the name Rory whatsoever.
8. I don't pee in pools, but have peed in the ocean many times.
9. Never heard Amy Grant, I know she doesn't sing Southern Gospel.

that was a great post Tam...kind of brought back memories of Sweet Monkey days! All you sweet monkeys can now say "awwww" with me and reminisce about one of the funnest blogs ever.

I loved the list tam. and I pretty much agreed with most of them.

I used to love Dutch Blitz but since trying to beat Jami, the stress level has risen and is not quite as enjoyable...Jami really is very good at this game!! (grrrr...i am WAY too competative!)

I think it would be fun to think I could mountain climb, but I know that my fear of hights would kill that one before it hardly started.

I loved the Roar thing...it makes me feel like I can hear your little kindergarten voice saying "Mommy, I can say boys but I can't say gools (girls)!"

Siberia may be pretty but something about it must be bad since that was the place Stalin thought would be best to banish people.

I actually have to agree on the Amy Grant thing too...it is probably also depressing because of what a sad example she turned out to be.

You know my Peeing in the pool history...nuff said....well, not quite enough. I guess I should say sorry to all my Huber cousins that swam with me at Grandpa and Grandma's every summer.

Well, I'll stop now. I shouldn't make this longer than the original.

love,
bek

So I guess Kory and I shouldn't name our child "Rory"? Which is actually a combination of Rachel and Kory. You're totally right...it's difficult to say! It's not even in the running for name choices. Loved the list!

I am with you on the scary movies and climbing a tall mountain! Ben, I, Jas & Bekah climbed this observation tower on our vacation last week and I had a panic attack near the top. At one point, I refused to go any further and shouted to the other 3 (who were at the top), "I've had enough! This is it. I'm going no further." They convinced me to come up the 8 more steps to the top where I was fine (it was quite drafty on the level below which contributed to my anxiety). There were quite a few other people on the top level who got quite a kick out of my dramatic-ness.
Loved your list. And we're looking forward to joining in when you start a game again!
