Hero of the Week: Wayne Donald Huber

It's been a while since I've named a hero...but today is June 4th and it's my Grandpa's birthday. He died about 15 years ago. I was 11 years old and he was not only my Grandpa but my best friend. People called him the gentle giant because he was tall and big but very tender and I simply adored him.
He would take each of his grandchildren out for their birthdays and I still can't go to Chili's without thinking of him 'cause that was our last date we had. I remember one year...I think I was about 6 years old...when he took all the granddaughters (there were 7 of us at the time), dress shopping. It was sooo exciting. It didn't dawn on me until I grew a little older how cute that was. I remember it was Grandpa and 7 of his granddaughters at the dress shop. We'd pick out a dress, try it on, and come out and show him what it looked like.
I could go on and on with memories that I have with him. But I just know that he was probably the finest person I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I'm so proud to be his granddaughter.

So here's to you, Grandpa!

Glad you are back and I love the new look of your blog!

Thanks for the sweet tribute, Tami. It warmed my heart. He was all that and more. I am so blessed to have had him for my dad!

Love,
Aunt Pam

I remember your Grandfather quite well from Sunday School teacher days traveling on buses and from those special family night sing groups. I thought they were the neatest! I enjoy hearing about your memories of him.
