Hero of the Week: Kathie Jean Inoue

I've debated whether or not to post this because I really hate to keep bringing up downer posts like I did on Mother's Day...but today is the anniversary of the day my dear mother left, and I just simply couldn't ignore it. It goes without saying that she was an amazing woman...I think everyone that knew her would say that. I always said that she didn't have to die for us to take notice of her life...she lived it dynamically. However, she wasn't perfect either and I loved the imperfections about her...so I thought I'd share some fun facts about her that not everyone knows:

1. Gregory Peck was her favorite actor...she said it was because he always played great characters, but I think it was more 'cause she thought he was so good-looking!;)

2. She had a dream of playing a piano concerto on stage with the Chicago Symphony.

3. My mom played the baratone (is that right, Bek?) in her school band, but she always wanted to play the drums.

4. I remember her confessing to me once that she had spent an hour looking at all the dresses the ladies had worn at the oscars on the internet...she felt terrible about it. I thought it was hilarious.

5. Before going into town, my mom would let us do her hair and makeup. Sometimes she'd end up looking like a clown 'cause we'd make her hair so big and makeup too heavy, but she was always so sweet and wouldn't change it...poor her.

6. My mom threw the best girl-parties! When my dad would travel, she'd try to make it really fun for us so we wouldn't dread those times. We'd stop and rent a few movies, pick out our favorite snacks and order a pizza. She knew how to do it right!

7. I can only remember 1 time in my life when my mom was asleep before I came home from a young group thing. She ALWAYS stayed up until all her girls were home, and then insisted on a complete debrief of the evening...which I LOVED!!! We'd stay up for another hour or two and rehash the entire night...in fact, the one time that she was asleep before I came home, I went in and woke her up just to tell her about my night, 'cause I couldn't sleep until I did. Again, my poor mom.

8. She probably read a book a week. She's always been a very fast reader...and she has read almost every book on our shelf. For anyone who has been to our home and seen all the books, you'd know it's pretty amazing.

9. She hated glasses and using a computer mouse. Both would really frustrate her! It always made me laugh.

10. She was the one to give me the nickname, "Tam-Tam-A-Roo"

We called her "Mommy" and she called us her "dollies"...and always made us feel like one.
So here's to you Mommy! I would take a year with you as my mom over a lifetime with another. My heart aches with missing and loving you today, but I love all the memories and laughs I can pull out like little hidden treasures.

All my love,
your dollie

tami, thanks for the precious post! I loved it! She was such a great Mom...I'll never be able to thank God enough for her!

by the way, she actually played the tuba. She told me she wanted to play the flute because she thought it was so pretty but the band teacher told her she was "built better" for the tuba...I have no idea what that guy was thinking! what an idiot really! She said she thought he just needed someone to play the tuba and knew she'd feel dumb to disagree with him.

anyhow, that's the story on the tuba.

What a great post, Tami! I never knew she liked Gregory Peck. Funny, 'cause he's one of my favorites, too! And even though she did think he was handsome, she probably did like him best for his great character roles. That would be more important to her than his looks. :-) She had so many "sides" to her and they all combined into one, fantastic, godly woman who had a great big heart of love for everyone she knew! What a gift she was!

Thinking of and praying for all of you today.
Love,
Aunt Pam

How are you built for a tuba? That is funny, maybe she was a strong farm-girl who the teacher thought had the muscle to lug that huge thing around.

I also am curious about the late night chat about young group functions. I can't figure out what you guys could have talked about for an hour after a singing or something.

Oh Tami, I didn't know your mom but she sure sounds like I would have loved her! What a great post. Thanks for sharing. I must say that it gave me encouragement on how to mother my little girl that is coming in only 3 months.
